NEW ZEALAND BROADCASTING

Sir,—l have been resident in New Zealand for six years, and during that time have been amazed by the entire disregard for the punctuality of scheduled programmes. On many occasions items have been over-run by as much as 10 minutes. The next item follows without so much as an apology for the delay. A recent source of irritation is the subdued ringing of a telephone during a broadcast. Surely these annoyances should be eradicated.—Yours, etc., A LISTENER. July 12, 1954. [When this letter was referred to the Station Manager, 3YA (Mr J. F. Skedden), he said: “It is not clear which programme the correspondent is referring to, and if specific instances were given, the cause of the delay could be ascertained. Possibly, the reference is to dleays from public concerts, but these are unavoidable.”]
