DISMISSALS BY UN.
World Court’s Decision (Rec. 8 p.m.) THE HAGUE, July 14. The International Court of Justice today declared that the United Nations General Assembly had no right to block a decision by the United Nations Administrative Tribunal awarding compensation to dismissed emoloyees of the United Nations Secretariat. The Court’s judgment backed the views of France, Britain and the Netherlands as presented at last month’s oral hearings in the Court. The United States and Greece had claimed that the General Assembly had the right to block the triburtal’s decision. The Court’s decision by 9 votes to 3 was that the General Assembly has no right on any ground to refuse to give effect to an award of the United Nations Administrative Tribunal. The Court was pronouncing its advisory opinion on the question of nearly £64,000 awarded to 11 American United Nations employees dismissed for refusing to tell a United States Senate Committee whether they were Communists.
