Members of the -Presbytery of Christchurch stood in silence at a meeting last evening as a mark of respect to the Rev. James Tennent. who died in Oamaru on Monday. A tribute to Mr Tennent’s work in Christchurch as a minister and as a chaplain of hospitals and Paparua Prison for more than 35 years was paid by the Moderator (the Rev. L. F. Gunn). Mr S. H. Clothier, a building overseer with the Housing Construction Division of the Ministry of Works, has retired after 16 years' service. He was presented with an electric clock and an electric radiator by the district supervisor, Mr H. S. Sherbrooke, at a farewell function held recently. Cr. J. D. Henderson will represent the Paparua County Council at the South Island Local Bodies' Association's conference thiz year.
