Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral (Sir Willoughby Norrie) and Lady Norrie will be the guests of honour at a 5 o’clock party to be given in the Winter Garden on July 26 by the Christchurch branch of the combined Empire societies. This morning Lady Norrie will visit the cottage home of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers at Lowry Bay, Wellington, and will be shown over the home by the Dominion president of the division (Mrs I. L. M Coop) and other officials. The home, which is known as Honda, was given to the division by Dr. Agnes Bennett, and it is to be used as a rest home for farmers’ wives and members of their families. Only one group will occupy the cottage at a time. Mrs Coop left last night for Wellington tn receive Lady Norrie at Honda. Miss Valmai Fleming, several times winner of the Canterbury women’s golf championship, left Christchurch airport on the T.E.A.L. DC-6 yesterday morning for Sydney. She will, while on her holiday trip, compete in the Australian women’s championships at Brisbane. Mr and Mrs Lowther Baines will arrive in Christchurch from the North Island tomorrow to visit Mrs Baines’s oarents, Mr and Mrs F. A. L. Cookson. Fendalton. Mesdames Sweeny (Ashley), Fitzgerald (Kaiapoi), Neale (Pines Beach) and Webb (Waikuku) will go to Wellington to attend as delegates at the biennial conference of Country Women’s Institutes to be held from July 20 to 22. Mrs Dora Smeaton. president of the Congress of Travel Clubs and also of the Dunedin Travel Club, was entertained yesterday morning at Elizabeth House by members of the executive and of the entertainment committee of the Christchurch Travel Club. A vice-president of the club (Mrs Cecil Wood) welcomed Mrs Smeaton. and wished her continued success in her oosition as president of the congress. In acknowledging the welcome, Mrs Smeaton dealt briefly with the vast amount of potential good that travel clubs could do for the community, and complimented the local branch on it<? useful activities. Mrs Smeaton will return to Dunedin on Sunday. ) New members were welcomed by Mrs H. A. Bishop at an afternoon social of the women’s section of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association yesterday. -The musical programme was provided by Mrs H. Wilson (piano solos) and Miss Dianne Graham (songs). A competition was won by Mrs B. McKee.

It was decided to contribute to the proposed hospital bed to commemorate the long service of Lady Wigram to Red Cross work.
