SHEARING COURSES AT LINCOLN
YOUNG MEN TO BE TAUGHT “BOWEN TECHNIQUE” Classes for young men wishing to learn the “Bowen technique” of machine shearing will be held at the Lincoln and Massey Agricultural Colleges over the next nine months under the auspices of the New Zealand Wool Board. The applicants selected for the classes will receive two weeks’ training from Mr Godfrey Bowen and an assistant. Each class will last ,a fortnight, and there will be six classes at Lincoln. Altogther 105 shearers will be trained at Lincoln, and 135 at Massey. The North Canterbury district of Federated Farmers has a total allocation of 18 trainees. Preference will be given to those who will take up shearing as a profession, and who have had some experience. Trainees will be required to pay their travelling expenses to and from the college, supply their gear, and pay a small student’s fee. The New Zealand Wool Board will pay the college boarding fees of all the trainees. It is also proposed to give a special course of instruction to 60 students of Lincoln College, from November 15 to December 3. .
