Total Of 505 Mau Maus Executed

Mr Oliver Lyttelton, the Colonial Secretary, told a questioner in the House of Commons today that 505 Africans had ben executed in Kenya since the declaration of the emergency up to July 4. The offences were: murder (223), unlawful possession of arms or ammunition (172), consorting with terrorists (89), administering unlawful oaths (14), acting with intent to further terrorism (5), procuring supplies for terrorists (2). In Nairobi today a Kikuyu girl, Wanji Johanna, aged 20, was sentenced to death for the murder of a European woman. She is the first Mau Mau woman to be convicted for murder.
