County cricket matches resulted:— Middlesex 136 (Bailey four for 35, Insole four for 24) and 120 (Bailey four for 49) lost to Essex 323 (Insole 88) by an innings and 67 runs. Leicestershire 151 (Shackleton four for 31) and 74 (Cannings six for 38, Shackleton four for 21) lost to Hampshire 309 by an innings and 84 runs. Glamorganshire 327 for eight wickets declared and 129 for seven wickets drew with Kent 226 (Hearn 88 not out; McConnon four for 49). Gloucestershire 345 (Milton 163) and 185 for eight wickets declared lost to Northamptonshire 256 (Livingston 78) and 278 for seven wickets by three wickets. Derbyshire 280 (Willatt 72; Tremlett five for 31) and 11 for no wickets beat Somerset 60 (Smith four for 10, Jackson five for 17) and 230 (Stephenson 84) by 10 wickets. Sussex 350 for eight wickets declared (Parks 135) and 198 for seven wickets declared (Cox 77) lost to Nottinghamshire 286 (Hardstaff 120; Thomson six for 97) and 264 for six wickets (Giles 89) by four wickets. Warwickshire 301 for nine wickets declared (Homer 87, Bromley 84) and 179 for four wickets declared lost to Worcestershire 232 an<i 250 for seven wickets by three wickets. Surey 130 (Wardle three for 27) and 264 (Clark 120 not out; Wardle five for 70) drew with Yorkshire 142 (A. V. Bedser five for 49) and 30 for two wickets.
