DRAINAGE BOARD PLANS

Visiting Experts Report GENERAL APPROVAL EXPRESSED An informal report on their visit to Christchurch was made to the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening by the two American experts on drainage and sewage disposal, Professor C. G. Hyde and Dr. David H. Caldwell. Professor Hyde and Dr. Caldwell will prepare a report advising the board on its over-all plans for sewer construction and sewage treatment in the board’s district. The chairman of the board (Mr E. H. S. Hamilton)- said after the meeting that Professor Hyde had expressed general approval of the board’s plans. Mr Hamilton said that at the meeting the visiting engineers reported that during their four days’ stay in the city they nad inspected various stages of the board’s construction programme and the method of disposal of the sewage at the board’s farm. At the farm they inspected the experimental pilot plant for treatment of sewage and said that this plant complied with the latest available technique. It would prove of definite value in the planning of treatment works to be installed. They paid, tribute to the completeness of the data supplied by the board’s staff on all aspects of its planning. The complete report will be sent to the board after Professor Hyde and Dr. Caldwell return to America.
