THE SHIP ENDEAVOUR

Sir,—Being interested in all matters pertaining to the sea, and especially to the early voyages made by famous seamen in equally famous ships, I was wondering if any reader of “The Press” could supply some statistical particulars of an old sailing ship that occupies a place of special affection in the hearts of most New the Endeavour. Information that would be appreciated is the year the Endeavour was built; the name of its builders, or the shipyards where it was constructed, and its ultimate fate. Was this historic vessel wrecked on some uncharted rock? Did it eventually reach the hands of the shipbreakers Or has it been preserved in some English seaport town as a monument to the memory of that great navigator and explorer, Captain James Cook?—Yours, etc., WHITE WINGS. Hokitika, July 12, 1954.
