WESTLAND SEAT
MR WALLACE APPROACHED BY NATIONAL PARTY (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, July 13. Mr Mark Wallace, of Koiterangi, who some weeks ago announced that he would contest the Westland seat as an independent, has been approached by the National Party with the request to be its candidate. Mr J. B. Jenkins, chairman of the Canter-bury-Westland Division of the National Party, said today that the Westland electorate committee’s meeting on Saturday had reached a definite decision to place a National Party candidate 'in the field. After a long discussion the 66 members present unanimously agreed to approach Mr Wallace with a request to join forces with the National Party.
EGMONT SEAT LABOUR CANDIDATE ANNOUNCED (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 13. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) tonight announced that Mr Roy Evans would be the Labour Party’s candidate for the Egmont seat at the General Election. Mr Nash was speaking at a meeting held in Hawera to mark the beginning of the party’s campaign for the Patea by-election. There were three nominees for selection as the official Labour candidate for Egmont, but the other two withdrew in favour of Mr Evans.
