TOTARA BOY SCOUTS’ ANNUAL MEETING
DINNER COOKED OVER OPEN FIRES A three-course dinner-was prepared by 12 senior scouts, assisted by two scout masters, for 90 parents and friends who attended the annual meeting of the Totara Local Association of' the boy scouts on Saturday evening. They peeled huge piles of potatoes, scraped carrots and prepared dozens of cabbages; The menu consisted of celery soup with sippets, corned peef and vegetables, and apple pie. The two scout masters in charge of the cooking and catering were Messrs L. S. Ashton and J. W. Millard. Mr Ashton was quartermaster at the jamborette at Motukarara this year. Except for the apple pie and the cream sponges which were provided for supper, all the food was cooked in dixies over open fires. A catering firm made ovens available for cooking the outsize apple pies and sponges, all of which were made by the boys. The annual meeting was held after dinner, and afterwards a film of the jamborette was screened. This colour film lasted for 40 minutes, and vividly captured the experiences of the 25uu boys who spent 10 days under canvas at the jamborette. Officers elected were: president, Mr J. L. Ferrier; vice-presidents, Messrs J. A, Masterton. T. A. Fraser, B. M. Sharp. F. P. Hill, and G. Coley; chairman. Mr J. Fox; secretary, Mr R. S. Menzies, treasurer, Mr E. G. Pidgeon; committee, Messrs L. J. Anderson, R. Vincent. B. M. Sharp, L. J. Franks, R. Murray, J. Stephen, Mesdames Roll, C. Hocken, and Ogier (lay workers), and J. W. Beagley. L. S. Ashton, J. W. Millard, P. Henwood, D. A. Mathieson, W. Fox. Misses M. Lascelles, B. Avery, Griffiths, and Barnes (warrant officers)
