SOUTH ISLAND TEA PRICES UNCHANGED

The price of tea is not expected to rise in the South Island, although it was announced last week that most brands packed in the Auckland area will sell at 2d to 4d a pound higher. High quality teas will cost 7s 4d a pound. The increased cost of shipments arriving in Auckland has probably been due to increased export duty on Ceylon tea, but this has not yet affected South Island supplies. At present first grade brands sell at an average of 6s 8d a pound. Future price changes will depend largely on supplies from India and the present upward trend of the Ceylon market.
