INCREASED MEMBERSHIP REPORTED An adult membership of 248, 119 more than when the new building was occupied about 18 months ago, was reported at the annual meeting of the Redcliffs Public Library. Mr L. S. Woods presided over a small attendance. The annual report said that 18,008 books has been issued during the year, and 19,018 magazines. The children’s section was reported to be well established with a membership of 280. There were 5906 children’s books issued during the year. *• Tlie finances of the library were reported to be good and the Christchurch City Council was thanked for its grant which had been a great help. It was reported that the children’s librarian of the Christchurch Public Library (Miss D. Bowsher) had kept a steady flow of children’s books coming forward. Miss M. Woods and Mrs F. Hill are the librarians of the children’s section of the Redcliffs library, and their work was praised in the report. The city librarian (Mr R. N. O’Reilly) and representatives from the Beckenham and Sydenham libraries were present at the meeting. Mr O’Reilly congratulated the committee, and made suggestions for improvements. Officers elected were:—patron, the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.); vice-president, Councillors L. Christie and E. Adams, Messrs H. Lake, M.P., and Lewis, Dr. L. Chapman and Dr. Beggs; committee, Messrs L. S. Woods (chairman), A. E. Walter, G. G. Finch, J. Calder, A. Newport, G. Papps, G. W. Bassett, J. Wilson. C. E. Jones, W. Howe, N. S. Sutherland, F. Hill, C. Hindle and Miss M. Woods; honorary auditor, Mr G. Shearman.
