PAPANUI GARDEN CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING Mrs H. B. Gourlay presided at the annual meeting of the Papanui Garden Club held at the home of Mrs M., E. Lyons, Papanui road. She congratulated the members who had. exhibited at the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s shows and also those who had assisted with the exhibit at the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show. She also thanked all who had organised the activities of the club during the year. The report showed that the club had contributed £36 12s 2d to the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s building fund.
Officers were elected as follows: president, Mrs_H. B. Gourlay; vicepresidents, Mrs R. L. Sparrow and Miss I. Webb; secretary, Mrs A. W Leithead; treasurer, Miss Webb; committee, Mrs P. Jamieson, Mrs J. Moffitt, Mrs K. E. Nicholls, Mrs A. H, Pedder; flower steward, Mrs R T. Sparrow; assistant-stewards, Mrs Pedder and Mrs Nicholls; sales table stewards, Mrs J. A. Jamieson and Mrs H. Flesher.
Mrs Gourlay thanked Mrs Nettleton, who retired from the committee after seven years’ active work, for her help and interest in the club. Prizes for yearly competitions were awarded as follows:—McKillop Cup Mrs Gourlay and Mrs E. M. Anderson (equal); McConnell Cup, Mrs T." E West: Papanui Garden Club Cup. Mrs w. loomey. The winners in bach class were presented with a plant.
RICCARTON CLUB The president, Miss M. Powell, presided at the annual meeting of the Garden Club, held yesterday at the home of the club’s patron, Mi's W. Milne Shand.
Miss,Powell congratulated the club on its sound financial position and it was decided to make a donation of £6O to the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s building fund. She expressed warm appreciation of the generosity of guest speakers, who during the year had shared their knowledge with members of the club.
Competition results tor the year resulted as follows:
Class A.—Merton Challenge Cup: Mrs W. Whittington. Class B. Templin Challenge Cup: Mrs A. D. Harris; the Powell Challenge Cup for cut flowers Mrs S. Thomas; the Milne Shane Challenge Cup for outstanding ex hibits: Mrs R. Sarjeant. Mrs N. S Cramond, and Mrs K. Scott (equal). NORTH CHRISTCHURCH CLUB The annual meeting of the North Christchurch Garden -Club was held at the home of Mrs D. A. Smart, Edgeware road. Mrs G. G. Parkins presided. Competition winners for the year were as follows: Decorative, class A, cup winner: Mrs A. G. Lake 1, Mrs K. Wilson 2. Class B, cup winner: Mrs W. R. Dailey 1. Mrs J. W. Kitchen 2. Cut blooms, cup winner: Mrs D. A. Smart 1, Mrs Dailey 2. Vegetable cup winner: Mrs Dailey 1, Mrs G. D. Smith 2. Highest aggregate points, cup winner: Mrs A. G. Lake. Most constant exhibitor, cup winner Mrs N. Shillito. The election of officers resulted as follows:—patron, Mrs W. Balch; president, Mrs G. G. Parkins; vice-presi-dents, Mrs W. R. Dailey and Mrs H. E. Radley; committee, Mesdames Hitchen, Webb, Carter, Lyttle, and Miss Thompson; secretary, Mrs J. M. Hepworth.
