DIVORCE
Sir, —I note the Very Rev. Martin Sullivan said about divorce that the Christian attitude was not to condemn but' always work for. reconciliation. Suppose he and his fellow clergymen were to condemn some of the things that so cheapen marriage in these days. What wholesome mental food have the young to feed on? Gone are the days of the clean old love stories; shops are packed with shoddy books—thrillers. Hundreds of cinema pictures set no good morals to youth. As to the stories that come over the air, if our grandmothers were there. I can imagine their hands upraised in horror. Modern stories mostly start with love-making between married and single persons. Some girl gets away with someone else’s husband; another man gets away with his friend’s wife, etc., etc. What examples to set young people! Is it any wonder they go wrong?—Yours, etc., SWEEP THE DECKS. June 15, 1954.
