CITY STREETS

Sir,—Some of your readers may find occasional difficulty in remembering in what sequence the east to west streets—Salisbury, Worcester, Tuam, etc. —of our garden city occur. As secretary of the Canterbury Mnemonic Society, I can recommend a simple sentence, which, if memorised, will obviate their difficulty. The streets, in order, are Salisbury, Peterborough. Kilmore, Chester, Armagh, Gloucester, Worcester, Hereford. Cashel, Lichfield, Tuam, St. Asapn. The initial letter of each street, in proper sequence, is reproduced in the initial letters of “St. Paul Knows Clearly (that) All Genuine Women Have Commonly Loved Tempting St. Anthony.”—Yours, etc., PRO BONO CHRISTCHURCH. June 15, 1954.
