IMPROVED STANDARD ON SECOND DAY

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN,'June 15. The South Island and New Zealand sheep dog championship trials, continued near Mosgiel today, and the standard of work was better as a result of improved weather. More than 80 competitors have taken part in the first event, the heading, bringing back, and holding in the ring, which will be completed tomorrow morning. With only about 12 yet to make their runs, the seven leaders, not necessarily in order of merit, are:—C. Kerr’s Len (Gore); D. Sutherland’s Rodie (Macrae's Flat); G. Simpson’s Queen (Palmerston North); M. A. Matheson’s Snow (Middlemarch); G. J. Brennan’s Bruce (Feilding); I. W. Anderson’s Tim (Omarama), and W. D. Gebbie’s Roy (Christchurch).

A start was made with the huntaway with slew event, in which there are about 70 entries. The leading seven are: D. J. Lory’s Jack (Oamaru); G. Woolastan’s Rock (Taihape); W. J. McAuley’s Terry (Parawa); S. Steedman’s Duke (Taihape); M. Todd’s Don (Heriot); M. A. Matheson’s Fog (Middlemarch); and F. Smith's Sam (Awakino).
