COST OF SENDING N.Z. TEAM TO BRITAIN

REPORTS TO CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION

Film evenings held by various clubs had realised £l2B towards the cost of sending the Nev/ Zealand team to the recent Commonwealth meeting at St. Andrews, Scotland, reported the secretary (Mr G. W. A. Green) at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Provincial Golf Association last evening.

The association was levied £5OO for the team, and had raised all but £l7O of this sum by holding an art union, said Mr Green. It had then been decided to hold film evenings at the clubs in order to raise the remainder of the levy. Three fili.i evenings were still to be held, and it was expected that the deficit would then be cleared.

A report from the management committee of the New Zealand association in Wellington said a grant of £750 had been received from the Department of Internal Affairs towards the cost of sending the New Zealand team to the tournament. The committee decided to request the New Zealand association to hold the South Island championships next year on the same course and at the same time as the Canterbury championships at Labour week-end.

To obtain uniformity in handicapping for various types of events, a recommendation was made that the Canterbury association should issue a pamphlet to clubs.

A letter was received from the newlyformed Burnham Camp Club, expressing the club’s desire for affiliation. It was reported that a nine-hole course had been laid out and was still being completed, although competitions were already being played. It was agreed to send the club the information about affiliation that it requested. A report on the Rakaia club’s? application for an increased standard scratch score was given by Mr A. R. Blank. It was decided to forward the application to the New Zealand association with a recommendation that an extra stroke be allowed for the roughness of the course.
