N.Z. SHEEP DOG TRIALS
CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 14. . About 350 entries have been received for the South Island and New Zealand sheep dog trial championships being held at Mosgiel this week. The trials began today with the heading, bringing-back, and holding-in-ring event, which will probably ber completed on Wednesday. In all 100 dogs from all parts of the Dominion are taking part in this event. Tlie standard of work generally was only fair, according to the judge (Mr W S. Wilson, of Waitahuna), but, he said, conditions today were unfavourable at times. Most competitors consider the course is particularly difficult. The best seven dogs of the 46 which completed their runs today were (not necessarily in order of merit):—C. Kerr’s Len (Gore), Fraser-Smith’s Highland Fling (Awakino), S. F. Herbert’s Boy (Palmerston North). D. Sutherland’s Rodle (Macrae’s Flat), J. F. Wilsher’s Kip (Eketahunak R. J. McKee’s Lena (Waikaia), and G. Simpson’s. Queen (Palmerston North). »
