INDO CHINA SITUATION
MR H. R. LAKE’S ApDRESS AT R.S.A. REUNION
“The world position is such today that unless the Indo-China situation is not cleared up, the whole of the South Pacific area will be menaced,” said Mr H. R. • Lake, M.P., speaking at the annual reunion at Duvauchelle of the Banks Peninsula Returned Services’ Association. He referred to the close interest taken by the Government in the negotiations, and said that he did not need to remind those who had fought for New Zealand how important it was for the Government to give the closest attention to world affairs. New Zealand could no longer regard itself as not concerned by the world situation. A hundred members and guests attended the reunion, the branch president (Mr Lloyd Johns) presiding. He proposed the toast of “the New Zealand R.5.A.,” Mr D. Barrett, a Dominion vice-president, responding. Mr Duncan Stewart proposed the toast “local bodies, and Mr Lake,” Mr Lake and the Mayor of Akaroa (Mr W. A. Newton) replying.
