Soviet Awaits West German Overtures

(Rec. 8 p.m.) MOSCOW, June 13. Soviet newspapers today reported that Mr Malenkov had said Russia would favourably consider requests by Western Germany for the establishment of economic and cultural relations with the Soviet Union.

An announcement in the Communist Party newspaper “Pravda” said Mr Malenkov gave this assurance to the East German Prime Minister (Mr Otto Grotewohl) in an interview in the Kremlin on Friday, “Pravda’ 7 said Mr Grotewohl asked the Soviet Government to give attention to possible requests by interested circles in Western Germany on the subject. Mr Grotewdhl had pointed out the “growth of the patriotic movement in West Germany, which aims at abolishing agreements in connexion with the creation of the European Defence Community as the basis for the unification of Germany.” .
