EFFECT IN GENEVA
Asian Talks May End
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) PARIS, June 13. Reports from Geneva say the defeat of the French Government has caused confusion in Asian conference circles.
Heuter’s diplomatic correspondent said delegates assumed that if the French Government decided to stay in office, the Geneva talks would continue, but that the French Foreign Minister (Mr Bidault) would have no real negotiating power since the defeat resulted from criticism of his Indo-Chma policy. If the Government resigned, it was taken for granted that the Geneva talks would soon be suspended. Reuter’s Bonn correspondent said a Social Democratic (Opposition) Party spokesman said the . defeat of the French Government further diminished German hopes of French ratification of the European Defence Community. He addea that the result of the vote was not unexpected in Germany and would probably further postpone the crucial National Assembly debate on the E.D.C. project.
