INJURED TRAMPER RESCUED

COLLAPSE AFTER FALL IN TARARUAS

(New Zealand Press Association) MASTERTON, June 9.

Mr Peter Davis, aged 25, a Wellington tramper, who had been lying injured in the Tararua ranges since Sunday, was brought out today. He was carried out by a rescue party of police and trampers, and at the end of the journey was taken by packhorse. The rescue party reached a homestead at 7.30 p.m. Mr Davis was admitted tonight to the Masterton Public Hospital, where his condition is said to be Mr Davis collapsed after injuring his knees in a fall, and news of his condition was brought to the Masterton Police Station yesterday by two exhausted trampers, Miss R. Radford and Mr B. Haywood, both of Wellington. They were cold and wet after fording the upper reaches of the Waingawa river. They spent Monday night in the bush with only raw venison to eat.
