uune f. With four points each, J. F. Lang and J. R. Cussack shared the South Island chess championship, play in which ended in Dunedin today. Twelve players had entered. Four players shared second place. They were L. Esterman (Hokitika), last year’s champion, H. E. Hewitt and J. K. Webling (Otago), and W. E. Moore (Canterbury). The B grade championship was won by W. A. Poole (Otago), with five points, and the C grade was shared by W. Petre (Otago) and G. H. Saville (Oamaru), with four points each.
