LYTTELTON HARBOUR IMPROVEMENT
Sir.—Congratulations for your article on the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s activities and your regrets that the country members are so full of doubts about supporting the scheme. It is a pity that the country districts are represented by members who are eo full of funk. This goes for some of the town members, too, for dilly-dallying over such a long stretch of time. Members of all the local bodies take their responsibilities too lightly. They attend meetings, listen to the reading of the minutes, officers’ reports, etc. and then retire thinking they have detoe a good job; whereas they, as representatives of the people, are merely wasting their time. The state of the estuary, the roadsides outside the inner area and the river from Dallington bridge along the river banks to New Brighton bridge where the banks have been left to grow noxious weeds, ever since dredging ceased, are disgraceful, k—Yours, etc., HIRAM HUNTER. June 4, 1954.
ADMITTANCE TO AERO CLUB Sir, —“Per Ardua ad Astra” should mind his own business and let the Aero Club mind theirs. Any club is entitled to refuse membership to any person without giving its reasons. As for government subsidies, good luck to them if they can get it. Any other club would take all they could and say nothing.—Yours, etc., MAGGIE. June 6, 1954.
