OBITUARY
MR A. STUART (New Zealand Press Association)
WANGANUI. June 7.
A former member of Parliament for Rangitikei, Mr Alexander Stuart, died at Palmerston North on Saturday'in his seventy-ninth year. He represented Rangitikei from 1931 to 1935, supporting the Reform Party and later the Forbes-Coates Coalition Government.
He was defeated in 1935 Mien the Labour Party became the Government. Mr Stuart, who was born in Scotland, came to Wanganui when he was 19, and later set up business as a carrying, road metalling, and ploughing contractor in the Rangitikei district. Later he bought Runnymede, a well-known Rangitikei property near Marton. He was a member of the Rangitikei County Council for 18 years from 1924.
