MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SATURDAY (Before Mr N. J. G. Speary, J.P., and Mr H. A. Harrow, J.P.) THREE CHARGES ADMITTED Pleading guilty to three charges arising from incidents in the Latimer Dance Hall on Friday night. Alan Edward Slack, aged 20, a clerk, w4s convicted and fined a total of £4. On a charge that he behaved in a disorderly manner while drunk, Slack was convicted and fined £2. He was also convicted and fined £2 on a charge that he resisted Constable C. J. Cruikshank in the execution of his duty. Slack was convicted and discharged on a third charge that he assaulted Constable Sub-Inspector F. J. Brady, who prosecuted, said Constable Cruikshank had visited the dance hall in plain clothes, where he had his attention drawn by the manager to the accused and anothei’ who had arrived with liquor. When the constable produced a warrant card to identify himself* Slack seemed to resent it, and became abusive. He told Constable Cruikshank: "You call yourself a cop, you yellow-gutted devil.’’ “Of course a constable will not stand for that,” said Sub-InSpector Brady. Slack was taken outside, and while a police car was awaited he resisted arrest and assaulted the constable, he said. "The lad is on leave from the Air Force, and no doubt he will be dealt with when he returns.” . . r
Sentencing Slack, Mr Speary said the Court proposed to deal leniently with the third charge—a serious offence. "My advice to you is, that if you cannot contain your liquor, leave it alone,” he said. An application by Slack for suppression of his name was refused.
