FACTORY SIRENS

Sir—On two occasions of late I have, upon hearing a siren, pulled into the side of the road and waited for the fire engine or ambulance to pass me, only to find that the siren has been sounded by a nearby factory. With all of these odd sirens being sounded, the sound of the siren is losing its effectiveness and subjecting the crews of fire engines, ambulances and police cars to even greater hazards. The factories concerned could just as easily use ordinary air blast horns of the car type or klaxons.— Yours, etc., C.B.R.C. June 4, 1954.
