G <> re 7owne<i and trained Amigo display of trotting at AshSr Ur on Sat urday to win the Allenton R,^ ic ? p ’ x He began well from 72 yards, but had not made up much of his handiat * th i e w? nd .’ o£ two furlongs. In the back straight his driver sent him after the leaders and he moved up to be sixth at the half-mile post. He continued his run,- and with a furlong and a half to w^ s shpwtog up on the outside of Daybreak and Lamie Scott, with PrestBoy (in a break), Bedelia, and Circlette nearby. Amigo won convincingly from the favourite, Daybreak. Amigo’s 4min 33 l-ssec for the two miles was a smart effort. • -Daybreak had a flying start, and was m fourth place on the rails soon after the start She had every chance from then, but found the winner too good. Larnie Scott was one of the leaders .all the way, and he ran on well for a three-year-oid. He was clear of Circlette, which made up ground, with 'two lengths to Bedelia, and four lengths to Jean Able and Prestbury. The solidly-supported Primavera was among those to break in the running.
. Favourite Wins Historic caused his many supporters some concern when he broke at the start of the Improvers’ Handicap, but he was soon into his stride and within striking distance of the leaders. He went to the front early in the run home, and he ran on solidly to win. Pursuance was the early leader, but Titania took over with apout seven furlongs to run. Historic moved up to follow Titania into the straight. The last-named soon dropped o^ t ;, and Historic went to the front to be challenged by Skirl, Titania, and Belamour at the furlong. Historic always had the measure of Skirl, and he beat him by three-quarters of a length. Skirl did well to finish so close up after being slow early in the race. He was still towards the rear of the leading bunch with half a mile to run, and he moved up quickly to the straight. Bonny Argyle was. never very far away, lanI an ? n weU in the straight to be third five lengths back, half a length m front of Persuance, Titania, and Jocund, with a gap to Black Invader.' Diene, Hazel Grattan, Titania. Mandoza, and Jocund lost ground early in the race.
Royal Crown in Form Royal Crown made amends for his defeat at Addington last month with a narrow but decisive win over Coincident in the Harvest Handicap. Hinepo took over toe running with more than one mile to run, and she still had control at the furlong post, where Currency, Coincident, Royal Crown, Stadium Chief Goldship and Cherry Queen were all handy. Coincident burst clear a few strides further on, and appeared to have the race won until Royal Crown worked clear and finished strongly to win by a neck. Coincident raced back in the field for most of the race, and her placing was u i e^. ul ,L , s , he was three lengths in front of,Goldship, which went away in a break, «rtit soon settled into his stride. It was his best effort for a long time. He had only a neck to spare over the unlucky Stadium Chief, which did not get clear until inside the last half-furlong. Hinepo ran a fair race for fifth, but she was well beaten. She was followed by Currency, Double Talk and Cherry Queen. Direct Hall, Pipe Dream, Reyleen Hall. Bourbon Lass, and Annie Dillon lost ground early in the race. Probationary Drivers’ Race Southland stables gained their second win for the day when Fiona, driven by F. R. Franks, recorded an outstanding performance to win the Autumn Handicap, a race for probationary drivers. Fiona raced well towards the of the field most of the way, and she was awkwardly placed, racing to the straight, when Moray and Preston Lad were in front, foll?- we , d Banbury. Fairlead, Colena, and Final Glow. Preston Lad took over at toe furlong, and was followed by Colena, Scottish Song, Fairlead, and Final Glow. Final Glow looked the likely winner inside the furlong, but Fiona finished brilliantly along the outside fence and won going away. Final Glow was not disgraced. He was never far away, and ran on solidly in the straight. He was clear of Song, which lost a lot of ground when he broke at the. start. His effort to finish so close up was the feature of the race.
Kingsdov/n Grattan, which had been weh back early, was only a nose away in fourth place, just shading Colena and Fairlead, with Gay Cobra and Preston Lad following. Coronita, Sandy Rey and Moray were IOS€ lose their chances at the
