CARGO HANDLED AT LYTTELTON

Tonnage handled at Lyttelton last month totalled 69,470, compared with 81,587 in May of last year. Imports were 31,847 tons, against 52.225 tons last year, and exports *37,623 tons (29.362 tons).

From October to May, 662,091 tons were dealt with, compared with 677,625 tons in the corresponding period of t|ie previous financial year. During May, 77 ships of a total tonnage of 168,001 entered thp port, compared with 76 totalling 166,713 tons in May, 1953.
