OPAWA JUVENILE LIBRARY
BORROWINGS TOTAL 11,000 During the first 12 months of the Opawa Juvqnile Library’s existence, more than 11,000 borrowings were made from the stock of 750 books, according to the annual report of the library. Membership grew from 145 to 705. Without the co-operation of the men and women who voluntarily served as librarians, the Opawa Adult Library, the headmaster of the Opawa School, and the Christchurch Public Library, which founded the scheme, the juvenile library could not be the success it was, said the report. As a nucleus, 150 books were supplied by the Opawa Adult Library. The rest of the stock of 750 books comprises books on loan from the Christchurch Public Library, which every six months changes the list. __
