Development Of Hong Kong Airport

(Rec. 10 p.m.) HONG KONG, June 2. The Hong Kong Government today tabled in the Legislative Council plans

to rebuild Hong Kong’s Kaitak airfield to enable it to be used by British Britannia and Comet II and 111 airsraft, at a cost of £6,625,000. Britain will provide an interest-free joan to help in the construction- of the fiew airport In addition a grant from colonial development funds is being •ought to assist in relieving the colony uf the burden of financing “this great development.” The promontory at Kaitak, with a rinrway and overrun 7500 ft long and ‘wft wide, will be constructed into the uarbour, appreciably increasing the factor and useability of the present airport, which is known throughout the world as one of the most dangerous in the Far East because it is surrounded by mountains.
