/ NEW YORK. May 2. The Washington correspondents of two New York newspapers agreed today that the power of Senator Joseph McCarthy had waned as a result of the current McCarthy-Army hearings. William White, writing in the “New York Times,” said: "The inquiry is lessening his power and influence certainly and- visibly in Congress, and possibly in the country at large. "Senator McCarthy has fewer willing and eager associates on the Senate floor than he had before the inquiry e wiliiam Shannon, writing in the “New York Post,” the editor of which has been investigated by the senator, said: “Senator McCarthy is now in an even contest, without the usual advantages, figuratively speaking, of elevated shoes, padding, a death grip on the microphone, and the Only blackjack in the room.”
