90TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHURCH
FINAL SERVICES OF COMMEMORATION A former Bible class member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, the Rev. E. G. Jansen, missionary on furlough from Hong Kong, preached at both services yesterday, the final day of the church’s ninetieth anniversary celebrations. In the morning, preaching from the text, “He thanked God and took courage,” Mr Jansen reviewed the part of St. Paul’s congregation with its splendid record of expansion and missionary outreach, and showed how it gave great cause for thanksgiving. He challenged the present congregation to go forward with like zeal into the future in worship, witness, and service. At the evening service, Mr Jansen emphasised the need for the Church of our day to return to the emphasis on repentance and conversion and went on to describe Christian discipleship in terms of progressive self-commitment. Miss Noeline Bennett sang the anthem, “I Know that My Redeemer Liveth.” A social hour at the close of the evening service ended the week’s celebrations.
