MEETING AT WAIMATE

TRINIDAD MAY WIN HIGH WEIGHT VITALOGY-BAHREIN FOR DOUBLE Vitalogy and Bahrein should be a j popular combination with doubles in-| vestors at the Waimate Racing Club’s meeting today. Vitalogy is top-weight for the first i leg. the Waimate Cup, one mile and i a quarter, a race he won in convinc- | ing style last year. The field he will meet today does not appear to be' particularly strong, and as he is a fresh horse, having had only two ■ starts since a good let up. he should be able to win with Bst 111 b.

One which should offer strong opposition to Vitalogy in the Waimate Cup is Argonaut. This Neptune entire finished second to The Hob at Motukarara at his latest appearance. Cock Crow, a winner in fast time over one mile at Oamaru last Monday, the improving Debenture, and Royal Birthday look the best of the remainder. If this race was chosen for Bahrein, a double acceptor, the Pherozshah colt would be very hard to beat, but it is much more likely that he will fulfil his later engagement. Bahrein has 9-2 to carry in the Waitangi Champion Hack Handicap, the second leg. He looks a class above the others in this field, and is entitled to strong support if reserved for this event.

After winning impressively at the Motukarara meeting, he was taken to Trenthem where he carried 9-7 for a fair showing against the hack milers. He will appreciate the drop in class today, and should win.

Ambrose added to a consistent record this season with a win over 10 furlongs at Oamaru last Saturday. He was not produced on Monday. In his present form he is certain to race prominently. The speedy Beau Vite mare Tipperary, and Josudi. which has been racing consistently, should also be prominent at the finish of this event. The High-Weight Another top-weight, Trinidad, Is xelected to win the Studholme Highweight Handicap, of one mile and 150 yards. Trinidad was a fast-finishing second to Peony Royal over seven furlongs at Oamaru last Saturday, and appears to be .. on the ve rge of winning form. Wait-a-Bit, ■with 9-3, should also race well in this event. The Treasure Hunt colt is above the average, and he may now be forward enough to make a winning bid. Detroit and Dandy appeal most of the ethers. The speedy Okaruru. top-weight for the Farewell Hack Handicap, is expected to be hard to beat. The Booby Trap gelding has been working with plenty of dash Royal Charm and The Poacher 111 ay be Okaruru’s strongest opponents. Master Gilpin, Ripon Wood, and Mainmast are a likely trio for the Trial Maiden Plate, and Pity, Armando, and Flying dicap may fare beSt in the Novice Han- .
