The appointment of Mr Roderick Syme to be a member of the National Parks Authority was gazetted last night. He takes the place of the late Mr N. M. Thomson.—(P.A.) Mr W. Brown has been appointed an assistant public trustee. He was formerly on the staff of a Hawera legal firm, and has served in the Wellington, Christchurch, Timaru and Dunedin branches of the Public Trust Office. In 1948 he was appointed office solicitor at the head office. He will continue to hold this position in conjunction with his new office. The president of the New Zealand War Amputees’ Association (Mr C. E. Butcher, of Wellington), was elected an honorary life member at the annual conference of the association in Dunedin yesterday. He has held the presidency since 1947, and has announced his intention of retiring at the end of his present term.—(P.A.)
