STOCK EXCHANGES MARKETS ACTIVE Markets were active on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. There were no appreciable variations in prices, although sellers for several , Australian issues had to make slight concessions. Government securities remained firm, but inquiry lessened. Banking shares were inclined to be erratic, but most issues were firm to firmer. E., S.» and A. Bank, National Bank of Australasia, contributing, and National Bank of New Zealand, changed hands. There was a revival of interest in Dalgety’s issues. The A shares and B shares were both traded at 10s 9d, but at the close there were unsupported sellers of the A’s at the same price, whilst buyers for the B’s dropped their bids to 10s 6d. Both National Mortgage issues had dearer buyers and no sellers. Coles receded to business at 17s 4d, with more wanted at 17s 3d. Bids for Woolworths, Ltd.’s shares were fractionally lower at 16s 6d and sellers remained firm at 16s 9d. Buyers for Woolworths New Zealand advanced their offers to 20s and sellers were 3d dearer at 20s 6d. Buying bids for McKenzies were raised to 17s 4d on a market which remained bare of sellers.
