SELECTION OF D DAY

Death Of Meteorologist Responsible

(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, March 23. Sir Nelson King Johnson, one of Britain’s leading weather experts, died today, aged 62. He died in hospital from a suspected overdose of aspirin. He was largely responsible for the selection of D-Day, June 6, 1944. German experts were sure the Allied forces could not attempt an invasion of Europe at that period because of continuous stormy weather, but he gave the forecast of “fair conditions” for June 6, and the Allied Command gave the order to move forward.
