Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours following the time of issue, is: Situation: a ridge of high pressure over New Zealand is moving to the north-east, and a cold front is approaching the South Island from the west. Forecast: north-west w’inds, freshening in exposed places and turning south-westerly during the night; weather mainly fair, but rain over the ranges in the afternoon, spreading to the coast at night; temperatures moderate. Outlook: fair. WEST COAST The following is the forecast for the west Coast of the South Island:— Moderate to strong winds, northerly at first, turning south-west in the evening; showers at first, with more general and heavier rain spreading from the south during the day; temperatures cooL Outlook: showers. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER _ The day in Christchurch yesterday was ane until the early afternoon, when rain There was a moderate south-west wind, and the maximum temperature was 10.8 degrees.
