New Zealand held a strong Australian team scoreless until the fifth innings in the first women’s softball test match played at Melbourne today, but Australia won the test, 4-1. The Australians had to battle all the way. New Zealand scored their only run in the ninth innings. The New Zealand outfield was without error and accounted for hit after hit from the Australian batters. Scores were: Australia, 0,0, 0,0, 1, 1. 2,0, 0; New Zealand, 0,0, 0. 0,0, 0, 0,0, 1.

Safe hits- for few Zealand were made by Walker and Trial (one each).
