TASMANIAN YACHT AT TIMARU
ARRIVAL ON HOLIDAY CRUISE (New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, March 23. The yacht HeemSkerk sailed into Timaru harbour this mbrning unnoticed until she dropped her sails off the wharf. Named after Abel Tasman’s famous ship which first sighted New Zealand more than 300 years ago, the Heemskerk is a Bermudan ketch-rigged yacht built at Hobart two years ago, and flies the pennant of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. Manned by a crew of five, the Heemskerk is on a holiday cruise, and has already visited the southern sounds, Stewart Island and Bluff. The captain, Mt E. E. Medhurst, in private life is the director of an electrical firm, and he and his companions, all residents of Hobart, have chosen this way of spending a seveh-week holiday. From Timaru the yacht, which is 55ft long, will sail to Wellington, and after cruising in the Marlborough Sounds, the crew hopes to arrive back at Hobart by Easter.
