ACCIDENT CASE ADMISSIONS
HOSPITAL GIVES NEW INSTRUCTIONS
Revised instructions to the public for action on accidents when no doctor is available were approved by the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday. The details are:—
“(1) The ambulance, taxi, or private car called to the accident should take all accident cases, with the exception of burns cases, to the casualty department of the Christchurch Hospital, where the patient will be examined and urgent treatment carried out. All burns cases should be taken direct to the plastic surgical unit, Burwood Hospital.
“(2) If necessary, the patient may then be admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. However, should the patient wish to go to a private hospital, or to be treated at home, the casualty officer should be asked to communicate with the patient’s own doctor, who can then make any necessary arrangements, such as admission to a private hospital, or attendance at home. “This procedure will ensure that every person injured in an accident gets the best possible treatment in the shortest possible time.”
