PLAYERS WARMLY APPLAUDED
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 23. Several hundred persons stood and applauded as the All Blacks strode down the middle aisle and on to the Town, Hall stage early this afternoon. The applause did not cease till the last All Black gained his seat. Earlier, a large crowd outside the hall had acclaimed R. W. H. Scott as Auckland’s All Black idol. Not since the Queen was here has one person had so many handshakes.
“You beat the critics in the finish and earned their highest praise,” said the Deputy-Mayor (Mr K. N. Buttle), in complimenting the team on its “magnificent name for sportsmanship.” The team manager (Mr J. N. Millard) thanked Auckland for its welcome, and said that though the tour had been a good one the best part was when they arrived back last night Amid cheering and applause the captain (R. C. Stuart) also thanked Auckland for its welcome.
As the reception ended the crowd called for Scott. Mr Millard introduced each member of the party to the audience. He had to wait for,the cheering to die down before announcing the member after Scott.
