CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING
ANNUAL MEETING OF COMMITTEE
The Canterbury Cross-Country Running Managemefit Committee decided at its annual meeting to consider an improved version of the Motukarara course as the Canterbury champipnship course, in preference to the present Cashmere course. Introducing the remit for the Marist Club, Mr F. Sharp saifl that the argument was explained in the four duplicated sheets which had been distributed to all clubs. * Mr W. A. Kennedy (Christchurch) supported the remit, but pointed out the merits and defects of both courses. He said it would be more difficult for Canterbury to gain, a win over the new course. The remit received almost unanimous support, only Mr D. F. Tucker (University) dissenting.
The only other remit approved was one from the University club, recommending that “When calculating the team placings for inter-club races, the B grade be ignored- when calculating A grade team placings; and that A grade individual placings be ignored in calculating the B grade placings.” In support of the remit, Mr M. R. Craighead said that under the existing arrangements it was possible for the placings within one grade to affect the position of a team in the other grade, and that if it- was felt that grades were necessary then they should be independently calculated- within each grade. The present system was test of total club strength rather than ability within grades. A remit from the Marist club on the Takahe-Akaroa relay race was: “That in the event of a lower grade team beating a higher grade team of the same club, then the lower grade team be automatically regraded to the higher grade.” The remit was referred back to the club. Mr D. H. Clibborn (AngHcan) said that the remit was really an alteration to the rules and therefore special notice was required. The remit should be resubmitted and a special meeting called to deal witn it.
