METROPOLITAN FIRE BOARD

RKCARTON AWAITS REPLIES Action was taken by the Riccarton. Bdrough Council on Monday on a suggestion by the Mayor (Mr H. S. S. Kyle) that the council should write again to the City Council and the Christch arch Fire Board asking them to take steps to form a Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board. It was strange that no reply had been received from the City Council or the Fire Board to the council’s letter inquiring whether a Metropolitan Fire Board could be established, said Cr. E. J. Bradshaw. Metropolitan districts had been formed elswhere. “As we got a rebuff from the City Council and the Fire Board, we should make representations to the Fire Services Council,” said the Mayor (Mr H. S. S. Kyle). Cr. Bradshaw: We had nothing official from them. “Our suggestion about a year ago * only brought a storm of abuse,” said Cr. W. G. Stevenson. “It met with a very hostile reception from members of the Fire Board. All we wanted was information from them.” The town clerk (Mr R. Sarjeant) said the council’s suggestion, was probably held over because of the municipal elections and the Royal visit. The council also decided to send a copy of the letter to the Fire Services Council
