EARLY SETTLERS’ ASSOCIATION
NEW CONSTITUTION ADOPTED
A new constitution was adopted at the arinual meeting of the Canterbury Pilgrims’ and Early .Settlers’ Association last evening. It provided that membership should be open to persons who had lived in Canterbury before October 31, 1876, their descendants, and the husbands and wives of persons in those two groups. * Persons who have rendered service to the community may Be elected associate members, and life members and junior members may also be elected in terms of the new constitution.
The constitution also establishes a council of the association, consisting of all the Officers elected at the annual meeting; and a committee comprising six members, the president, and the treasurer Two films have been" given by Mr and Mrs W. S. Mac Gibbon to form the nucleus of a library recording the association’s activities. Officers were elected as follows:
Patron, •Mr John Deans; president, Mr G. O. Greenwood; vice-presidents. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, Sir James Hight. Dr. F. L. Scott, Messrs L. O. H. Tripp. William Deans. M B. Field, J. H. Rhodes, and F. J. Shanks, Mesdames F. J. Reynolds and M. B. Field, Misses Laura Bowen and Esme Elliott; executive committee, Messrs Edric D. R. Smith, C. E. Fenwick and J. L. Hewland, Dr. W. G. Rich, Mrs G. O. Greenwood, and Miss Rose Reynolds.
