DEVELOPMENT OF FARM LAND

45,000 ACRES TO BE AVAILABLE SOON

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 19. About 45,000 acres of new farm land, most of it in the Rotorua area, will soon be available for settlement. At f least 100 new farms in the RotoruaWairakei district will be ready by the end of the year, and an additional 100 a year will be brought into production afterwards. 'This was stated by the Minister of Education (Mr R. M. Algie) in an address at the annual meeting of 4he Khandallah branch of the National Party last night. New Zealand, a country which depended on its land, should have a policy of land development, and no previous Government had as good a land policy as the present Government, he said. The Minister of Lands (Mr E. B. Corbett) and his staff were working on the development of 45,000 acres which would shortly be available for those who wanted to use it for farming. Some of this land was in Southland and Otago.. "I was once told that there was no future in the land in the thermal area, but now the place is blossoming like a garden,” the Minister said.
