DRAMA
THE ONE-ACT PLAYS OF PERCIVAL WILDE, New Series (Harrap. 264 pp.). edited by the late Mr J. W. Marriott, a connoisseur of the one-act play, will be welcomed by many amateur acting groups and all who enjoy a well constructed play. Mr Wilde, an American author, was first published in England in 1933. This new series is a further selection from his plays (whose number is legion). He writes both comedies and dramas, and can make a good play out of unconventional subjects, in which many an author would fiiid little dramatic material. His climaxes are well built up, and his economy in words shows the true craftsman. The dialogue in the present edition has been discreetly anglicised, where words and phrases have struck the editor as being, too American for a British audience.
