ADVENTURE AT SEA
And Not To Yield. By Alan Villiers. Hodder and Stoughton. 160 pp. Mr Villiers has drawn on his experiences as sailing master of the Outward Bound Sea School’s training ketch for the material for this book, which is a work of fiction. To these basic materials he has added condiments gathered from a powerful seafaring imagination, and the result is a dish which anyone with but one drop of salt water in his veins will find both appetising arid satisfying. The Outward Bound Sea School exists not to give boys a professional sea training, but to allow them, through experience in sail, to gain confidence in themselves and a realisation of their own capabilities. This excellent little tale seems to show how well the school is succeeding in its objectives.
The British Broadcasting Corporation have published an interesting book THE YEAR THAT MADE DAY* (79 PP-lt a fully illustrated and detailed, but not too technical, account of the entire process of planning and preparing the Coronation day broadcaste. All the special installations that were necessary to ensure the success of the world-wide broadcasts. in 41 languages besides English, aie [described, and the. special problems of television explained.
