The American Cancer Society last aight for the first time cautiously voiced its suspicion that cigarette gaoting had something to do with lung The society summarised a report on ie controversial question by 25 lead--3g United States cancer researchers in feese words: “The evidence to date jstifies the suspicion that cigarette picking does, to a degree as vet undermined, increase the likelihood of developing cancer of the lung.” Dr. Charles Cameron. Medical and Sdestific Director of the society, was sked by reporters what he would adrise cigarette smokers to do in view of the pronouncement. He said: “If you are young and do sat snoke, or if you are a beginning sacker. without an ingrained habit, do 3d smoke. If you’ are an older, confirmed ETOker. smoke in moderation.” Asked his idea of moderation, Dr. Cameron, himself a light smoker, said sx to eight cigarettes a day.
